A journey between hope and dystopia in a hallucinated Kinshasa, from the culture of the hair salon to futuristic solitary clubbing, from the urban parade to the glory of a dictator in campaign to modern western in the Takeshi Kitano style. In parallel, the film is based on the almost carnal relationship we have with our phones.

Construction of a luxury hotel and dissolution of relationship intertwine in Fundaments.
The director follows the construction of a luxury hotel through his kitchen window. Fragments of the dissolution of his relationship unintentionally sneak into the recorded material and shake the very foundations of the film.

On 20th December, 1989, a few days after Ceausescu’s bloody repression in Timisoara, a father’s quiet evening turns to sheer ordeal as he finds out that his young son has mailed a wish letter to Santa. As the kid understood it, his father’s desire was to see Ceausescu dead.

An old man lives in a small village in the north of Montenegro. He is troubled by the story of his father, which he heard when he was a boy. At the end of WWII, an Italian officer called Mazzola was captured by the partisans and soon after shot and buried close to the old man’s house. There is no tomb or trace; no real proof that the story is true. However, he is afraid of digging to see if any bones lie underneath. He turns to the remaining villagers in order to find out the truth. There are two men older than him, but their stories don’t always match and are not easy to comprehend.

An exhausted delivery man is lying on a park bench, deep asleep. In a dream he finds himself in a park with his fellows: they have all turned into still statues in contrast to their everyday exhaustion in the pursuit of speed and efficiency.
